Martha & Mary Remodel |
|
A remodel on an 'emergency' timeline for Martha & Mary was executed. As a result of burst sprinkler pipes the building was left with eight inches of standing water in subfreezing temperatures resulting in extensive damage to all interior finishes. the project was completed in three weeks over the holiday season to ensure the building was occupiable for classes to begin after New Year's Day. “The damage was much more than what we anticipated,”Joanna Carlson, Administrator of Children's Services, said. “We lost a lot of furniture. We lost a lot of stuff.” Work needed to begin immediately to repair the building. Martha and Mary called on Bainbridge Island-based PHC Construction. Project Manager Clayton Lynch made it clear to his crew the building needed to be ready by the first week of 2010, a tight timeline. Normally a project of this magnitude would take four to five weeks. Lynch’s crew had it done in three." The broken pipes left 6 to 8 inches of standing water in the building. The electricity was shut off, and as a result, the water froze. The carpet, drywall and most everything else was ruined. “I have to say, for being the disaster that it was, it was a wonderful experience,” Carlson said. “It’s a brand-new building, it’s better off now than it’s ever been.”
