CAMPFIRE SHELTER |
|
The images you see here, the work of Jason Gibson, are of a proposed shelter structure for a new group campfire circle at Islandwood. Forty years ago, it was a common site around the Pacific Northwest to see a saw mill’s scrap wood burner glowing in the night. This structure is patterned after these now extinct icons of a changed industry. Responding to our increasing awareness of air pollution, developing products much of what was previously considered scrap, and utilizing waste to make power, doomed the wood burners. We have designed this structure utilizing western red cedar utility poles, and a skin of fire-resistant canvas that spirals up the form as if it were following the smoke. Islandwood is currently looking for people interested in donating funds to help make this fire structure a possibility.
