The goal of this project was to add second story space to create two bedrooms and a bath for two high school daughters. Our solution had to work with an existing stairway to not alter the plan of the existing main floor, and had to work within the existing structure above the rear hall, kitchen and dining area. To create enough room on the second floor, a bay window projection was created on both the south and north facades, and was carried to the first floor. This provided space on the main floor for a boot bench on the north side, and added space in the dining area. The two bedrooms and bath are small totaling ______ sf, but with careful planning, and creative built-ins, they are very comfortable and efficient. |
