2009 Horse Barn and Arena |
|
Located on a 20 acre parcel with a gentle south slope, this new horse barn and its companion covered riding arena and shop buildings was completed in 2009. The buildings utilize a construction method developed by the general contractor. Architects Thomas adapted this building system to the plan developed with the client. The contractor also manufactured and installed the stall front hardware and all the doors. The barn includes fifteen stalls, indoor and outdoor wash racks, a tack room with a locker for each stall, two indoor grooming stalls, work room and vitamin/grain room. To minimize the land covered with buildings, the attic of the barn is designed to hold a three months supply of hay. Skylights bring daylight to the interior of each stall to keep energy costs down. The covered arena (100’x 208’) includes a viewing area for 20 people and a trainer’s station. The roof line on a portion of one side is pulled out an additional 24’ to provide covered parking for seven horse trailers. The shop and utility buildings include a 24’ x 36’ tractor barn, 12’ x 36’ equipment carport structure and a 18’ x 27’ covered compost holding structure. |

The majority of the trees cleared from the property where milled on site for use in the construction of the buildings. There were eleven species of trees which provided a wonderful range of woods for exterior siding, interior paneling, trim material, and slabs that were used for benches and desk tops.
